The city of Melbourne has taken a big step to reinvent the impact of their food waste on the environment. In what’s being described as an ‘Australian-first’, their latest pilot program has seen six high-rise buildings become the newest members of the Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) collection scheme.

Apartment living space is often tight, leaving residents little room for extras, and kitchen compost bins are rarely on the essentials list. As more of our population resides in high rise buildings, the questions about how we dispose of food scraps conveniently and sustainably are growing in frequency and volume.

As the sustainable farming movement gains traction, Green Olive farm and restaurant is working with enrich360 to close the loop on food waste.

When disposed of unsustainably, food waste carries a hefty environmental impact. Currently, food waste poses an issue globally, from daily household waste to scraps from hospitals, restaurants and farms, one-third of the world’s food is wasted.
