The Challenge

High-volume hospitality training environments like William Angliss Institute produce substantial quantities of organic food waste as a by-product of daily teaching activities. Managing this waste sustainably, while keeping operational environments clean, odour-free and disruption-free, is a challenge for any busy educational institution.

The Institute was seeking a practical, low-impact solution to divert organic waste from landfill, reduce associated costs, and align with its sustainability commitments, without compromising the working and learning environment for staff and students.

The Solution

This trial came about through the initiative of Quayclean, the Institute’s cleaning services provider. Whilst Quayclean’s contracted role at William Angliss is focused on cleaning services, the team identified an opportunity to expand its contribution by drawing on Quayclean’s broader waste management expertise. This led to the recommendation of the Eco 75 as a practical, onsite sustainability solution. The initiative reflects Quayclean’s approach to client partnerships-looking beyond the immediate scope of services to identify opportunities where it’s broader expertise can support meaningful environmental impacts.

In partnership with Quayclean, enrich360 coordinated a one-month onsite trial of the Eco 75 commercial food dehydrator. The Eco 75 dehydrates organic material at high temperature, reducing it to a dry, lightweight, odourless residue, lowering waste disposal costs while diverting material from landfill. Installation was completed quickly with minimal disruption to daily operations.

Feedback from the Quayclean operational team, Institute staff and teachers has been overwhelmingly positive across every aspect of the trial:

Operational Performance

• From an operational perspective, the dehydrator has performed very well.

• The unit operates very quietly throughout the cycle, making it suitable for use in working environments without causing disruption.

• The dehydrator is very user-friendly and fits comfortably without taking up significant space.

Waste Handling & Odour

• When the unit is closed, there is no noticeable odour.

• Even when removing the buckets containing the dehydrated waste, the smell is minimal.

Installation & Integration

• Installation was completed quickly and efficiently.

• The equipment was integrated well into the operation during the on-site trial.

• Overall, the experience has been positive.

Feedback from Institute teachers and staff has equally been very positive, with the unit drawing no complaints related to noise, odour or space usage during normal teaching and operational hours.

Unit Capability and Growth Potential

The Eco 75 is designed to run up to three full cycles per day. During this trial, the unit was operated at approximately one cycle per day, capturing only a third of its total capacity. Next Steps

Following the success of the trial, enrich360 and Quayclean are working with William Angliss Institute to progress the following:

01 Scale cycle frequency to the Eco 75's full capacity of three cycles per day at the existing unit, maximising waste diversion from the current installation.

02 Identify additional locations across the Angliss campus where satellite Eco 75 units can be deployed to capture a greater share of the Institute's daily organic waste output.

03 Establish ongoing reporting and monitoring of environmental impact data to track progress against sustainability targets and demonstrate outcomes to stakeholders.

04 Explore opportunities to embed the Eco 75 program into the Institute's curriculum as a live sustainability case study for food and hospitality students.

Conclusion

The Eco 75 trial at William Angliss Institute demonstrated that commercial food dehydration is a highly effective, low-disruption solution for organic waste management in high-volume hospitality training environments. The unit delivered strong environmental results, a seamless operational experience and positive feedback from every stakeholder involved.

The trial reinforces that educational institutions committed to sustainability can achieve meaningful waste diversion outcomes without compromising the day-to-day learning or working environment.
